Easy Dinners for your Dog or CatI would like to warn you against feeding your dog or cat certain foods. These include onions, garlic and sugar. If you never feed your dog sugar (junk food) then he will never get cavities. He will get plaque on his teeth starting around 4 to 5 years of age but a daily routine of brushing you dogs teeth should keep him away from the vet and around $800.00 for just a cleaning! Yikes. When my vet told me that I looked for other options. One option is Doggie Dental. They will gently scrape away the plaque from your dogs teeth without anesthesia. Some of my dogs have taken a real fancy to strawberries, tomatoes, walnuts and apples. In the wild a dog will often eat whatever vegetable or fruit that tastes good to him. Grains or wheat germ, cooked oatmeal or rice cereal can be added to meat dinners for pets. For dogs use 55% grains and vegetables and 45% meat. The younger a dog is the more fat he will need if he is active or a puppy. Mother dogs should be given food rich in meat and nutrients. She is producing so much milk that it is robbing her body of all the vitamins and fat to feed the puppies. Make sure she is fed properly.
All pet foods should be served at room temperature, not hot from a pan or cold from the fridge. But really when you think about it a dog in the wild will eat frozen meat in the middle of winter, such as sled dogs eat while sledding across the wilds of Alaska. But perhaps for your lap dog fluffy or my dog Spooky, a room temp meal will do nicely. DOG GONE GOOD STEW Cook 1/2 pound finely ground round meat in a cast iron pan. When just about tender add some chopped potatoes and carrots. If you want to season the stew add a little salt, not much. If you want to use this with kibble you can make a little gravy by first dredging the meat in whole wheat flour and frying in a little oil. As you cook the stew, add water until a gravy forms. This is excellent way to get a fussy dog to eat his kibble. Spoon a little over the kibble and he will eat his dinner! CONNETICUT FISH STEW Heat 1 tsp. corn oil in a skillet and fry 1 salmon or other fish until it flakes apart easily. Remove and cool. Flake the fish and make sure there are no bones anywhere! Mix the fish with the kibble and watch the dinner disappear. CHICKEN YUMMY TREATS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix ingredients together with enough water to make a stiff dough. Roll out and cut into shapes. Bake on cookie sheet until hard. |
