Chicken-soup

Chicken Soup for sick dogs.

Is your puppy or dog sick

A nice and easy recipe for a sick dog is a simple as cooling up a bit of rice cereal.

My Dog is partial to cream of rice and when all else fails this will encourage him to eat.

Sick dogs need gentle food

My dog has always had a very delicate stomach and he often gets sick.  The vets don’t know what it is.  I’ve been to seven of them and they all say different things and finally end up giving me really expensive dog food.

Because it’s difficult to feed a sick dog and keep his appetite up I’ve developed a routine that I have to stick to or he will be sick the next day and won’t eat much and many times nothing for 36 hours.

Favorite things to do.

  1. Eat
  2. Take walks
  3. Sleep on my pillow
  4. Look inside every bag I bring home from the grocery store.

Here is my routine that helps him great deal.

  • First thing in the morning I give him about a fourth cup of milk.  My vet tells me not to give him milk but this will settle his stomach in preparation for food.
  • After he has perked up a bit he looks at me like he is hungry.  You know the look.  They won’t stop staring at you.  This must not be mistaken for the “I want to go for a walk” stare.
  • I always keep a little bit of chopped chicken breast around because for a really sensitive dog this always works.  I sprinkle it on his kibble and he eats most of it.
  • I feed my dog 5 small meals a day.  If he goes without his small meals, he is sick the next day.  Like I said the vets do not know what is wrong with him so I have come up with this routine for him.  It may not work for your dog and you should always check with your vet if your dog is sick.  I’m not a vet so I do not want to steer you wrong.
